Many people who are interested in cannabis are not interested in the prospect of smoking it. Luckily, nowadays there are so many other options out there. Smoking cannabis is becoming less and less common because people understand that smoking anything is going to have negative health effects on our lungs. Here is a list of 5 of the most common ways to use cannabis without smoking it:
Edibles
Edibles are quickly becoming one of the most popular ways to use cannabis. If you were to search around on the web you wouldn’t have a hard time finding edibles to buy. But, most people like to make their own at home with cannabis butter. Edibles also take a while to kick in.
Cannabis butter is exactly what it sounds like. Butter infused with cannabis that can be used in place of butter in pretty much every recipe out there. Cannabis butter is also super simple to make, we even have our own comprehensive guide here if you’re interested in making your own.
Like I mentioned previously, cannabis butter can be used in pretty much all recipes. So, as you could imagine, people have been using it in pretty much everything you possible. Here is a list of some of the most common edibles that you will find out there:
- Brownies
- Gummies
- Lollipops and candies
- Cakes and pies
- Cookies
- Chocolates
- Ice cream
- And many, many more.
Edibles are not recommended for beginners. They are much more intense and the high that they produce lasts much longer. Also, if you were to make your own edibles at home the potency would be hard to judge. We have a potency calculator here but it’s important to keep in mind that this is just a rough estimate. It can also only be used before the edibles are made.
THC and CBD pills
THC and CBD pills are ingestible cannabis oils in their pure form. These pills are taken orally or can be added to foods or drinks. Similar to edibles, THC and CBD pills take a while to kick in. And also similar to edibles, these pills pack a punch!
Lots of people make a mistake with edibles and pills. Since they take a while to kick in, some people will take more since they think the first one they took didn’t work. Edibles and pills take around 1-2 hours to kick in but they can even take longer depending on how full your stomach is. In summary, use responsibly!
Vaporizing
Vaporizing cannabis is very similar to smoking cannabis. Vaporizers heat the cannabis to a temperature around 240 degrees Fahrenheit so that the cannabis doesn’t burn but the trichomes and chemical compounds inside cannabis do. This is because most cannabinoids do not require as much heat to vaporize them. Vaping cannabis tastes much better than smoking cannabis too, so if you want to taste your flower the best way to do it is by vaping.
Some people will deny the fact that vaping cannabis can be bad for your lungs. The truth is, it definitely can be. It’s not as harmful as smoking but there is research out there that shows vaping can have negative health effects.
Vaping also tends to be pretty expensive. Vaporizers can range anywhere from $20-$1000. If you are interested in getting a vaporizer I would suggest spending at least $100. Cheap vaporizers usually don’t gauge the temperature accurately and could even end up burning the cannabis anyway.

CBD & THC infused topical creams
Topical creams are usually infused with CBD. Sometimes they have THC, but most of the ones you’ll find on the market are CBD only. CBD, in short, is THC’s cannabinoid cousin that doesn’t produce any psychoactive effects. All this means is that CBD won’t make you feel high. If you want to read more about CBD we have an article here.
CBD has benefits for pain relief and inflammation. Because of this, people have been using these creams directly to the skin on spots where there is a pain. The main benefit of CBD creams is the ability to target localized pain.
THC and CBD oils
CBD and THC oils are becoming more and more popular. They are essentially the cannabinoids in their purest form. Many people use these oils as additives to edibles or even their morning coffees.
CBD oils have become mainstream since they’ve had some serious breakthroughs as a seizure medication. Since then people have realized that these oils can help out with plenty of things, even pets. If you want to read more about CBD oils and pets we have an article here.
In conclusion
These are just some of the many ways to use cannabis without smoking it. As cannabis starts to become legal around the world, we’re probably going to get to the point where you can get anything cannabis-infused.
