How Are Hemp CBD Oil and Cannabis CBD Oil Different?
Hemp and Cannabis Oil? What’s the difference you may ask? In this blog, we will discuss the ways these two different CBD oils are unique and what you should know!
When it comes to the chemical structure of these two oils, there both considered “Cannabidiol” (CBD). The main difference is how they are grown, cultivated and used.

Definition of Hemp
Hemp also is known as industrial hemp — refers to the non-psychoactive strains of Cannabis sativa, having less than 1% THC. Both cannabis and hemp come from the same cannabis species. Genetically they are distinct and are further distinguished by their chemical structures, use, and cultivation methods.
Definition of Hemp CBD Oil
Hemp CBD oil is derived from hemp plants that have been cultivated for industrial purposes. The hemp plants are grown and after they are harvested, extraction methods are used to take out the chemical compound Cannabidiol, CBD (Remember hemp does not contain any tetrahydrocannabinol, THC).
When grown right hemp can be very useful, and in the purest form, the CBD is the exact same as if grown with a cannabis plant. For this reason, Hemp is a great option for businesses and companies wanting to use CBD. It is more accessible and has less strict laws. Therefore it’s a favourable alternative for people in the industry. That is the reason why it’s more common than regular CBD from cannabis plants!
Depending on the company you can buy CBD oil that’s vegan, 100% CBD, and organically grown. It’s a great option in the cannabis industry especially as it becomes more regulated.

Background on hemp
Hemp has some negative properties associated with it. Some of which actually raise health concerns within the cannabis and global community.
Hemp’s main purpose is to be grown industrially, NOT recreationally. This is a big difference. The laws and regulations classify each in their own category.
Also, the main issue with hemp is they are considered a bio-accumulator. This means the intake and sucks up large amounts of anything in the surrounding soil, pesticides and chemicals included. Because of this, there are lots of possibilities for containment. The hemp could be filled with harmful chemicals and toxins which could end up in your body. You need to use a lot of hemp to create a small amount of CBD. This ratio means there is even more potential to be contaminated. This is only a concern where there are no regulations and laws. In Canada, there are strict growing regulations to ensure the end consumer is safe and healthy.

In some areas, Hemp growing conditions are not regulated. Which means it’s hard to tell if you’re ingesting a clean safe high-quality product, or some chemically charged one. Hemp has been known to absorb toxic spills, pesticides and other dangerous harmful chemicals that should never be near a human mouth.
When purchasing hemp CBD oil, just look at the labels and see where the product came from. There are a lot of safe and regulated hemp CBD oil companies whose product is clean and safe!
Definition of cannabis
Cannabis: Also known as the marijuana plant: or the hemp plant cannabis sativa. Cannabis is a tall plant with a stiff upright stem, divided serrated leaves, and glandular hairs.
Its flowers are called “buds” or “nugs” these contain the psychoactive chemical in cannabis called tetra-hydro-cannabinol (THC). It’s used to heighten perception, affect mood, and relax.

Users a lot of the time prefer CBD which is harvested by cannabis plants and not hemp. The reason being so is they are a lot higher in CBD levels. Meaning it takes less plant material to get the CBD.
Cannabis plants also have different laws and growing regulations and restrictions. Due to these restrictions there is less chance for contamination with chemicals. This is especially true in states where cannabis is still illegal.

In the United States, the only CBD product approved by the Food and Drug Administration is a prescription oil called Epidiolex. Since cannabis is still federally illegal in the united states, CBD falls under that blanket.
