The great thing about Space Cakes is that you can include cannabis into almost any basic cake recipe and it will become a Space Cake! This means if you have any secret family cake recipes or just a favourite cake you like making, you can easily turn it into a Space Cake!
What is Space Cake?
The term “Space Cake” is slang for a cannabis edible cake. It refers to baking a cake and infusing it with activated cannabis ingredients. The infusion most commonly requires the use of cannabis butter, but cannabis oil and cannabis milk are also popular ingredients used to infuse the cake with.
The Effects of Edibles
This is a great alternative to smoking cannabis as this method will bring the desired effects of being “high” without the negative side effects of the common combustion methods used. Furthermore, this method won’t damage your lungs. Edibles usually take around 1 to 4 hours to take effect and can last up to 8 or more hours depending on the size of the dose the specific individual takes. How to Make a Space Cake
The main thing needed to make a Space Cake is an activated cannabis ingredient, which you can then easily add to any cake recipe. An activated ingredient refers to cannabis butter, cannabis oil, or cannabis milk. The cannabis is considered “activated” when it has already undergone decarboxylation and is bioavailable and ready to be consumed. Decarboxylation is a critical step when making Space Cakes. If this step is not taken, the Space Cake will not work.
Why You Need to Decarboxylate!
Decarboxylation is crucial because it will turn the THC-A molecule into the psychoactive THC molecule. If you were to smoke cannabis this would already be happening naturally when you burn it. But, since in the case of making edibles, there is no cannabis being burned. Therefore, we need to do this extra step when using cannabis to make edibles like Space Cakes.
All this means is that you need to activate the THC, that way you get the psychoactive effects you intended for. If you want to learn how to decarboxylate we have already written a comprehensive article on it:

Space Cake Potency Calculator
To find the potency of your weed Space Cake, you’re going to first need to know the potency of your cannabis butter or other infused ingredient. If you don’t know the potency of your cannabis butter, head over to our cannabutter guide by clicking this link. At the bottom of that post, there is a calculator that you can use to estimate the potency of your activated ingredient.
Another important thing to note about potency calculations:
Calculating the potency of your edibles accurately is not an easy task. There are many variables involved. Some of these include the amount of cannabis that was actually infused into the cannabis butter, what the exact percentage of THC the cannabis you used was, and even the amount of cannabinoids that are burned off when you bake the Space Cake. In short, there’s a lot of places that your estimate can go wrong, and if there is an error at the beginning of your calculation, that error will be carried throughout and your result will be way off. It’s important to understand that the potency calculator is just to help you estimate the potency.
This potency calculator has been programmed to take into account the above recipe that uses 1/2 cup of cannabis butter.
