How to Make Cannabis-Infused Gummy Bears

Some of the most popular cannabis edibles out there are weed gummy bears. This is because of the simplicity of the recipe and how quickly they can be made.

If you’ve ever wondered how to make cannabis edibles, but don’t know where to start, you’ve come to the right place. This article is going to cover every aspect of making weed gummy bears.

This recipe is going to require around 40 – 55 minutes.

Gummy bears spread our artistically on a white surface. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, and white.

What You’re Going to Need

Before we get into the ingredients and directions, we’re going to need a few things:

Organic Refined Coconut Oil

We use refined organic coconut oil when we make our infusion. That is because it does not have any distinct coconut taste or aroma, making it a good cooking medium. Here’s a link to the refined coconut oil that we use.

If you don’t have cannabis-infused coconut oil, we have a comprehensive guide to making it here. We also have a comprehensive guide in our cannabis cookbook, along with over 130 other edible recipes, you can learn more about our cookbook here!

Equipment

  • Stove
  • Cooking Pot
  • Whisk
  • Gummy Bear Moulds
  • Dropper
  • Freezer
  • Infusion Machine (optional)

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. 1Prep

Turn your stove on low heat. In a pot, add water, the cannabis-infused coconut oil, and the sunflower/soy lecithin.

  2. 2Mix

Continue stirring the mixture until it has a consistent texture and the coconut oil has completely melted. Now, add in the flavoured gelatin and the unflavoured gelatin while continuing to stir throughout this process.

  3. 3Control Temperature

Whisk extensively on low heat for 10-15 minutes until the gelatine is completely dissolved. Make sure it does not come to a boil. But, you need to make sure that all the ingredients are thoroughly combined. (Don't stop stirring this mixture for the entire 15 minutes)

  4. 4Fill Moulds

While leaving the pot on the element, start filling up the gummy bear moulds with a dropper (a dropper is a mini turkey baster that comes with most gummy bear moulds). Make sure to move quickly. If your liquid starts to separate, it's because the mixture has started to cool. It's critical that you move fast otherwise the oil may separate in the pot. You need to continue whisking throughout the pouring process otherwise the mixture may start to harden and stop binding. (The secret to making great infused gummy bears is pouring the mixture into the moulds as fast as possible.)

  5. 5Cool Gummy Bears

Put the gummy bear moulds into the freezer for 20-25 minutes. (Pro tip: lift the mould 2 inches off the table and drop it. This will let the mixture fill any air pockets.)

  6. 6Enjoy

    Bon Appetite!

Recipe notes

Optional: add a 3/4 tsp of citric acid into the mixture, use lemonade instead of water, and once the gummies come out of the freezer coat them in sugar. If you're using potent cannabis oil, this should help with the taste. Store in the refrigerator for best results.

Potency Guide

The strength of gummy bears will depend on the potency of your cannabis-infused coconut oil. It’s also important to remember that gummy bear moulds are all different shapes and sizes so it is going to be difficult to accurately find your potency. Luckily, we have a calculator here to help you find your potency per serving.

Potency Guide to Cannabis-Infused Gummy Bears

When it comes to the potency of your homemade edibles, it’s hard to determine just how potent they really are. We have created a dosage calculator to help estimate the potency of the homemade weed gummy bears. To get an accurate measurement, you will need to know the potency of the cannabis-infused coconut oil first. You can find the dosage calculator for the coconut oil at the bottom of that recipe – click here to find that calculator.

Once you know the potency of your cannabis-infused coconut oil, you can input it into this dosage calculator below. Keep in mind, this is just a rough estimate. Also if you make an error in the calculation at the start, it will carry through until the end.

Sunflower lecithin will bring the oil and water together. Half a tablespoon per 1/2 cup of oil and water. The process is called emulsification.

Does anyone know the recipe to make 100 gummies that contain 5mg THC each? 500mg total. I’m trying to get an exact dose before I start making them up. I have a feeling that the recipe will produce more than 100 gummies.

Math is your friend to find your dosing example 3g MJ 100 gummies total product x THC content + expected loss = total THC 3000mg MJ x.17 (assumed thc percentage 17% = 510/100= 5.1mg!!/ gummy at 100 per batch of 3g MJ

Worked perfectly! Definitely easier to have two people to help whisk and use dropper.

I'm planning on using this recipe for my gummies and I have xanthan gum instead of Lecithin can I use that instead and how much would I need if so?

Thanks for sharing this awesome and thorough article. My question is since I am constantly stirring, can I use a CuisinArt blender stick? Or would that put too many bubbles in it? Kudo's to all the different people involved in creating this website! And yes, this recipe is fan-o-tast-ic!

Help! I just tried the recipe, (it was my first attempt at making weed gummies) and they just aren't “setting” and have a weird, almost gritty like, consistency. I followed steps as listed w/ a few modifications ; *I did not use coconut oil, I had some left over, infused olive oil from a brownie recipe and used that. I used 3/4 cup of oil instead of 1/2 cup. *3 Tablespoons of Gelatin instead of 2 *2 teaspoons of Lecithin instead of 1/2 tea They have been in fridge for 10 hours at this point and still have the consistency of jelly although the flavor is AMAZING. Can they be salvaged? Can I melt them back down and add something to fix the grittiness and help the to set better? What did I do wrong? I don't want to waste them, a taste test proved they have potency...

Hi Ryan! If I were to follow this recipe EXACTLY (including the Cannabis infused cooking oil recipe), how many mg would 1 gummy have? Also, what is the shelf life on these/can they survive non-refrigerated if it is hotter than usual? Thanks!

I have a big bag of powdered sunflower lecithin. Can I use it instead of liquid? And how much powdered would equal .5 tspn liquid?

I added a medical tincture To coconut oil. Could I have skipped the coconut oil, and just added into the gelatin and jell-o mixture?

These came out great! not too sweet, good texture and overall wonderful recipe! I used frozen strawberries and the amount of sugar that the recipe calls for and it was perfect, as far as the sweetness goes. Make sure you let them sweat for a full 24 hours. They are much better that way.

Angel, did you use strawberries/sugar instead of Jell-O? This is what I'm trying to tweak to get rid of the JellO. I tried mango puree, which was okay but not great. Juice would have been better. I'm trying to find a ratio of gelatin/juice/sugar that is the same. I have read that one 85 gram box of Jell-O has the equivalent of one packet of gelatin. Ryan, any insight on this?

My gummies turned out very rubbery. How can I prevent that?

This recipe is perfect, I make it over and over again! The gummies are very popular with my friends. It's the perfect method, from backyard to table! I do use 1/2 cup fruit juice instead of water...black cherry is my favorite with watermelon jello (Sonic brand). Every time I try the citric acid the taste is great, but the gummies stay “wet”. I also have anhydrous citric acid. It's just not working for me, luckily they are delicious as-is. Thanks for the great recipe! I keep them in the fridge, a batch lasts us a month or so.

Could you use a flavor concentrate to add flavor? Weed taste is awful. Flavored jello just wasn’t enough.

does it have to be flavored gelatin or can use unflavored and add my own flavoring to it? and if my oil is in the fridge will that be a problem?
