How to Make Cannabis-Infused Gummy Bears

Some of the most popular cannabis edibles out there are weed gummy bears. This is because of the simplicity of the recipe and how quickly they can be made.

If you’ve ever wondered how to make cannabis edibles, but don’t know where to start, you’ve come to the right place. This article is going to cover every aspect of making weed gummy bears.

This recipe is going to require around 40 – 55 minutes.

Gummy bears spread our artistically on a white surface. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, and white.

What You’re Going to Need

Before we get into the ingredients and directions, we’re going to need a few things:

Organic Refined Coconut Oil

We use refined organic coconut oil when we make our infusion. That is because it does not have any distinct coconut taste or aroma, making it a good cooking medium. Here’s a link to the refined coconut oil that we use.

If you don’t have cannabis-infused coconut oil, we have a comprehensive guide to making it here. We also have a comprehensive guide in our cannabis cookbook, along with over 130 other edible recipes, you can learn more about our cookbook here!

Equipment

  • Stove
  • Cooking Pot
  • Whisk
  • Gummy Bear Moulds
  • Dropper
  • Freezer
  • Infusion Machine (optional)

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. 1Prep

Turn your stove on low heat. In a pot, add water, the cannabis-infused coconut oil, and the sunflower/soy lecithin.

  2. 2Mix

Continue stirring the mixture until it has a consistent texture and the coconut oil has completely melted. Now, add in the flavoured gelatin and the unflavoured gelatin while continuing to stir throughout this process.

  3. 3Control Temperature

Whisk extensively on low heat for 10-15 minutes until the gelatine is completely dissolved. Make sure it does not come to a boil. But, you need to make sure that all the ingredients are thoroughly combined. (Don't stop stirring this mixture for the entire 15 minutes)

  4. 4Fill Moulds

While leaving the pot on the element, start filling up the gummy bear moulds with a dropper (a dropper is a mini turkey baster that comes with most gummy bear moulds). Make sure to move quickly. If your liquid starts to separate, it's because the mixture has started to cool. It's critical that you move fast otherwise the oil may separate in the pot. You need to continue whisking throughout the pouring process otherwise the mixture may start to harden and stop binding. (The secret to making great infused gummy bears is pouring the mixture into the moulds as fast as possible.)

  5. 5Cool Gummy Bears

Put the gummy bear moulds into the freezer for 20-25 minutes. (Pro tip: lift the mould 2 inches off the table and drop it. This will let the mixture fill any air pockets.)

  6. 6Enjoy

    Bon Appetite!

Recipe notes

Optional: add a 3/4 tsp of citric acid into the mixture, use lemonade instead of water, and once the gummies come out of the freezer coat them in sugar. If you're using potent cannabis oil, this should help with the taste. Store in the refrigerator for best results.

Potency Guide

The strength of gummy bears will depend on the potency of your cannabis-infused coconut oil. It’s also important to remember that gummy bear moulds are all different shapes and sizes so it is going to be difficult to accurately find your potency. Luckily, we have a calculator here to help you find your potency per serving.

Potency Guide to Cannabis-Infused Gummy Bears

When it comes to the potency of your homemade edibles, it’s hard to determine just how potent they really are. We have created a dosage calculator to help estimate the potency of the homemade weed gummy bears. To get an accurate measurement, you will need to know the potency of the cannabis-infused coconut oil first. You can find the dosage calculator for the coconut oil at the bottom of that recipe – click here to find that calculator.

Once you know the potency of your cannabis-infused coconut oil, you can input it into this dosage calculator below. Keep in mind, this is just a rough estimate. Also if you make an error in the calculation at the start, it will carry through until the end.

How long could these remain edible if we store them in the fridge?

I am currently using LouAna Coconut oil ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074SCN793?tag=sa-sym-new-20&linkCode=osi&th=1&psc=1 ) having terrible problems with separation. The oil floats to the top as they cool. Is this due to the coconut oil I am using?

Just made these tonight. Came out great using exact recipe. I used molds from Amazon that are leaf shaped and measure 1″ X 0.8″ and the recipe filled 3 molds at 25 gummys each and I had enough left over for another mold. Using the regular sized small gummy bear molds you would easily get 200+ gummys. You have to stir the entire time. If you stop even for a few seconds you're screwed. At the point you're ready to place in molds, get a friend to help continue stirring while you use the dropper. If you remove from heat and stop stirring it will become solid very fast and dropper becomes useless. Someone needs to invent a heated funnel to make filling molds so much easier.

Tried this tonight and followed directions to a T...once in the molds and cooled they separated...I’ll be remelting the gummies and trying again...what do you recommend to add? More unflavored gelatin, more soy lecithin, higher heat? Please help!

Hello, I’ve made your recipe and they were delicious! I think I made them pretty weak, which was kinda cool since I wanted to keep munching on them, but I do want to make them stronger. I know calculating the potency it super tricky with so many variables but I still wanted to run this by you guys. I used a medical marijuana powder and just stirred it in at the end before filling my molds. The container I buy has 200 mgs of THC, and my molds have 1ml cavities. How much of the powder would you guesstimate is needed to make 10 mg gummies?

Hi, we're glad you enjoyed the gummies! We can't tell how many mL the powder will convert into. However, if you can get gummy bear moulds that are 3.5 ml they will be 3 & 1/2 times more potent then they are with the 1 mL moulds. Hope this helps!

1 pack of jello is only 10 grams. Your recipe says one pack 85 gr. do I need to get more packages?

That's a sugar-free packet of Jello. I found Jello in 85 g that is sugar. Would I need to purchase the equivalent of 85 g in the sugar-free version or would 1 sugar-free packet (10 g) do the trick?

Hi Robin, The flavoured gelatin packet that is 85g is mostly sugar. I think you might run into problems though if you try with just the 10g sugar-free packet. since there's a lot less powder in the mixture, but still the same amount of liquid you might run into issues.

These worked out for me perfectly! I used an electric hand mixer to keep the liquid moving.

I made this recipe with 7 grams high grate bud (Sunrise Sherbert). I used lime jello. Fresh lime and water plus 1/2 cup canna oil. Added 1/2 tsp mold inhibitor and 1/2 tsp citric acid. Finished in Tupperware with 1.2 Tbs corn starch 1 Tbs confectioner sugar and 1/2 tbs Citric acid. Shake well. Absolutely Bonn. 140 gummies

I used your recipe for a base, but instead of water, I used concentrated sour cherry juice, to kick up the flavor of the cherry jello. I also added 3/4 cup of very strong cannasugar I had made. As long as you have plenty of plain gelatine to add to the mix, you can get by with adding just about anything you want. Nice, simple, straight forward recipe. Thanks

This recipe works well for me but I do it a little different. I use the 1/2 cup of water to bloom the unflavored gelatin and I use a stick blender for most of the mixing once all the ingredients are added. I’ve also learned that if you place the gummies on a cooling rack overnight, they cure much better and don’t ever get slimy. I get about 40-45 gummies with the molds I have.

Hey Kyle, I've heard a few people say they let them cure on the counter for a day or two. Do you pour them into the molds and then leave them out and they cool/dry off that way or do you freeze or refrigerate them first?

Hello! Glad you enjoyed the recipe 🙂 We haven't tried making it with yogurt before but milk should work fine. If you do try it with yogurt, please let us know how they turn out!
